The East Coast Explorer - 7 nights
A 7-night itinerary exploring the north east of Sardinia along the Baunei coast, Costa Smeralda to Capo Testa.
“This itinerary holds a special place in our hearts - it’s the route we took on Mike’s very first trip to Sardinia, when Mariella introduced him to the island she grew up.”
We’ve refined the itinerary over the years based on what worked, and what we’d do differently, but the soul remains: dramatic coastlines, hidden coves, mountain villages adorned with striking political murals, and that perfect balance between adventure and relaxation.
This itinerary is perfect for you if
- You want Sardinia’s famous turquoise waters without the eye-watering Costa Smeralda price tag
- You’re comfortable with a bit of driving (the scenery makes it worthwhile)
- You’d rather spend your euros on incredible seafood than overpriced beach clubs
- You want stunning beaches, local culture, politically-charged street art, and one taste of the glitzy coast
- You appreciate insider tips from someone who actually grew up here

Final thoughts from us
This itinerary captures what we love about Sardinia - it's not just beaches (though they're incredible), it's the mountain villages, the food, the fact that you can go from crystal-clear coves to political murals to fancy marinas in the same day.
Mike's first trip following roughly this route turned him into a Sardinia convert. He'd been to "beach destinations" before, but this felt different - more substantial, more interesting, more real somehow.
Take your time with it. Don't rush between places trying to tick everything off. If you love a beach, stay there an extra hour. If a restaurant looks good, sit down and have a proper meal. That's the Sardinian way.
Safe travels, and if you make it to Orgosolo, take a photo for us.
